Day tours, Nile cruises and packages that visit Luxor
Luxor, ancient Thebes, has more monuments than anywhere else in Egypt. Our Luxor tours are private, with your own Egyptologist guide, and split naturally into the two banks of the Nile: the temples of the living on the East Bank and the tombs of the dead on the West Bank.
A West Bank day starts early at the Valley of the Kings, where the general ticket includes three royal tombs and extra tickets open the tombs of Tutankhamun, Seti I and Ramesses VI. It continues to Hatshepsut's temple at Deir el-Bahari and the Colossi of Memnon, with the Valley of the Queens, Medinet Habu or the Tombs of the Nobles for a longer day. For the best view of it all, start with a hot-air balloon at sunrise.
Karnak Temple, the largest temple complex ever built, is best seen in the morning; Luxor Temple in the centre of town is beautiful at sunset and lit up after dark. The two are joined by the 2.7 km Avenue of Sphinxes, and the Luxor Museum sits between them.
Luxor works as a day trip from the Red Sea resorts or Cairo, but two full days is ideal. Most Nile cruises start or end in Luxor, and our Egypt packages combine it with Cairo and Aswan. All trips that visit Luxor are listed below.
Lowest price per person sharing a double room; it varies with the season and the hotels you choose.
Two full days: one for the West Bank and one for the East Bank; three if you add Dendera and Abydos.
The general ticket includes three tombs from those open that day; Tutankhamun, Seti I and Ramesses VI need extra tickets.
