Step into Royal Tombs and Grand Temples of the New Kingdom
Luxor was Thebes, the religious capital of the pharaohs, and it holds more of ancient Egypt in one place than anywhere else in the country. The Nile divides it in two: temples of the living on the East Bank, tombs and mortuary temples on the West Bank. Our Luxor day tours are private, with one Egyptologist guide, one air-conditioned vehicle and hotel or cruise-ship pick-up, so you see the sites at your own pace.
Karnak is the largest temple complex ever built, added to by pharaohs over some two thousand years; its Great Hypostyle Hall of 134 columns is the moment most visitors remember. Three kilometres south, Luxor Temple stands in the middle of the modern city, joined to Karnak by the restored Avenue of Sphinxes. The Luxor Museum and the Mummification Museum are close by. See our Karnak & Luxor Temples tour.
In the Valley of the Kings the general ticket opens three tombs of your choice; the tombs of Tutankhamun, Seti I and Ramesses VI need their own tickets. Nearby are the terraced Temple of Hatshepsut and the two seated Colossi of Memnon. See our Valley of the Kings tour, or return for a second day at the Valley of the Queens, the Ramesseum and the workers’ village of Deir el-Medina on our Valley of the Queens, Medinet Habu & Ramesseum tour.
Our East & West Banks full-day tour covers the essential sites of both banks in one day, which suits most visitors on a short stay or a Nile cruise. With two days you can take the banks separately, add the tombs that need extra tickets and still have time for the museums.
October to April is the comfortable season. From May to September the middle of the day is very hot, so West Bank visits start early and the afternoon is kept for the East Bank temples or the museum. On 2 August 2027 Luxor lies on the path of a long total solar eclipse; see our solar eclipse guide.

Yes. Tell us the name of your ship and we will meet you at the dock, as we do at hotels.
For most guests it is a highlight of the trip: the West Bank temples and the Nile at sunrise, seen from above. Flights depend on the wind and can be moved at short notice.
Yes, as a long day trip. See our Luxor Day Trip from Hurghada.
