Day tours, Nile cruises and packages that visit Abu Simbel
The temples of Abu Simbel, carved for Ramesses II and Queen Nefertari, stand on the shore of Lake Nasser about 280 km south of Aswan. Our Abu Simbel tours are private, with an Egyptologist guide, and can be done in a day from Aswan by road or by air, or as part of a longer trip with a Nile cruise or a Lake Nasser cruise.
The Great Temple of Ramesses II, with its four colossal seated statues and the sanctuary where the sun reaches the gods twice a year, and the Small Temple of Nefertari and Hathor beside it. Both were cut away and moved 65 metres higher in the 1960s to save them from the waters of the High Dam, one of the greatest rescues in archaeology.
