Egypt Tours from India
From India, Egypt is a short nonstop flight from Mumbai or a one-stop journey through the Gulf from other cities. Here is what Indian travellers need to know about the visa, flights, time difference and food.
Flights from India
EgyptAir flies nonstop from Mumbai to Cairo in about six and a half hours, several times a week. From Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and other cities, connect through the Gulf, for example via Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi or Muscat. From Cairo, domestic flights take about an hour to Luxor, Aswan, Hurghada or Sharm El Sheikh.
Visa for Indian citizens
Indian passport holders should apply for an e-Visa online before travelling ($30 single entry, $65 multiple entry). A visa on arrival is generally available to Indians only if they hold a valid, used visa for the United States, the United Kingdom or the Schengen area. Your passport must be valid for six months after arrival. Details in our Egypt visa guide; we are happy to help with the paperwork when you book.
Time difference
Egypt is 3.5 hours behind India in winter and 2.5 hours behind during Egyptian summer time (late April to late October).
When to go from India
October to April is the most comfortable season. The Diwali holidays, Christmas and New Year are the busiest periods, so book early. The Indian summer vacation, in May and June, is very hot in Upper Egypt, so plan early-morning sightseeing or add a few days on the Red Sea. See the best time to visit Egypt.
Food, money and practicalities
- Vegetarian food is easy to find: koshari, falafel, ful medames, lentil soup and plenty of salads and breads, and Indian restaurants in Cairo and the resort towns. Tell us about any dietary needs when you book.
- Bring US dollars, which are easier to exchange than rupees, and carry Egyptian pounds for tips and markets.
- Egypt uses two-pin plugs (types C and F) at 220 V; Indian type C plugs usually fit.
- Take travel insurance that covers medical care abroad.
