Half-day and full-day tours of the Great Pyramid, the Sphinx, Saqqara and the Grand Egyptian Museum
Standing before the last surviving wonder of the ancient world is the moment most travellers come to Egypt for. Our Pyramids of Giza tours are private: one Egyptologist guide, one vehicle and a plan built around your pace, with hotel pick-up in Cairo or Giza. Choose a half-day on the plateau, add Saqqara and Memphis for a full day, or pair the pyramids with the Grand Egyptian Museum next door.
Every tour of the plateau includes the three great pyramids. The Great Pyramid of Khufu is the largest and oldest, built about 4,500 years ago; beside it stand the Pyramid of Khafre, which still keeps part of its original casing at the top, and the smaller Pyramid of Menkaure. Your guide then takes you down to the Great Sphinx and the Valley Temple, where Khafre’s funeral rites began, and up to the Panorama Point for the classic view of all nine pyramids against the desert. Read more in our guide to the Giza Pyramid Complex.
A half-day tour of about four hours covers the pyramids, the Sphinx, the Valley Temple and the Panorama Point, and leaves the afternoon free. A full-day tour adds one of three natural pairings:
Entry to the plateau and entry inside the Great Pyramid are separate tickets, and places inside are limited each day. The passage up to the King’s Chamber is steep, narrow and warm, so it is not suited to anyone uncomfortable in tight spaces. Tell us when you book and your guide will plan the visit around it.
Arrive when the plateau opens in the morning: the light is softer, the air is cooler and the coach groups have not yet arrived. October to April is the most comfortable season; in summer an early start matters even more. In the evening, the Sound and Light Show tells the story of the pyramids with the Sphinx lit in front of you. See the best time to visit Egypt.
Staying in Hurghada? You can still see Giza in a day. Fly to Cairo in about an hour with our Pyramids Day Trip from Hurghada by Air, or make a longer day of it by road on our Cairo Day Trip from Hurghada.
About four hours for the plateau, the Sphinx and the Panorama Point. A full day of eight to nine hours adds Saqqara and Memphis, Dahshur, or the Grand Egyptian Museum.
Yes. The plateau is large and has no explanations on site; a guide brings the history to life, takes you to the best viewpoints and deals with tickets, touts and timings.
Yes, with a separate ticket. Daily places are limited and the passage is steep and narrow, so let us know in advance.
Yes. The museum is a short drive from the plateau, and our Giza Pyramids & Grand Egyptian Museum Tour combines the two.
First thing in the morning, when it is cooler and quieter. Late afternoon is the second-best option.
Yes, in a day: about an hour by air, or a long day by road. See our day trips from Hurghada above.
