Where Tutankhamun, the royal mummies and the Nubian kings ended up

What was carried out of the tombs and temples is now gathered in a handful of museums, and two of them are reason enough to build a day around. The Grand Egyptian Museum beside the Giza plateau holds the complete Tutankhamun collection for the first time; the older Egyptian Museum on Tahrir Square still keeps the crowded, cabinet-lined charm that generations of travellers remember.

Further south, the Nubian Museum in Aswan tells the story of the communities displaced by the High Dam, and the Coptic Museum in Old Cairo holds the finest collection of Christian Egyptian art anywhere. All of them can be visited on a guided day tour.
