Summary
The best Egypt tour company for you is one that is licensed, answers your questions in writing and shows exactly what its price includes. Check the licence number first, then compare what each quote covers: hotels, guide, entrance fees, transfers and domestic flights. The cheapest quote is often the one that leaves the most out. This guide gives you the checks to make, the warning signs and the questions to ask before you pay. We are a tour company ourselves, so use the same checks on us.
Which Type of Tour Company Suits You?
| Type | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Local licensed operator | Private trips, changing the plan, direct contact with the people running your tour | Quality varies, so check the licence and recent reviews |
| International tour brand | Set group departures and booking in your home country | Higher prices, fixed dates and less freedom to change the route |
| Online marketplace | Single day tours and comparing reviews in one place | The tour is run by a third party, so read who operates it |
| Independent seller on social media | Rarely the safest choice for a first trip | You may have no licence, no contract and no one to contact if plans change |

Seven Checks Before You Book
- The tourism licence. Ask for the licence number and look the company up in the member list of the Egyptian Travel Agents Association.
- A real address and phone number. The website should show an office address and a number that a person answers.
- Reviews on more than one site. Read recent reviews on Tripadvisor and Google, and look for details such as guide names and real trip dates.
- A written itinerary. It should list each day, the hotels or ship, and the sites you enter.
- A clear price. Ask for the price per person, what is included and what is not.
- Your guide. Ask whether a licensed Egyptologist guides you at the sites, or only a driver takes you there.
- Written payment and cancellation terms. Read them before you send any money.
Warning Signs to Avoid
- A price far below every other quote, with no list of what it includes
- Pressure to pay today because of a deal that is about to end
- No licence number, or an unwillingness to share it
- Hotels described only as “5-star” with no name, or as “similar” with no examples
- Shopping stops added to the day without being mentioned in the itinerary
- Payment requested to a personal account with no written booking
What Should the Price Include?
Two quotes can look very different because they do not cover the same things. Before you compare them, check each of these:
- Hotels or cruise ship, with names and meal basis
- Airport meeting and all transfers
- Guide and private vehicle
- Entrance fees, and which sites they cover
- Domestic flights
- Lunch on sightseeing days
International flights, the visa, tips and drinks are usually extra. Our guides to what a trip to Egypt costs and Nile cruise prices show typical figures. If you want most costs covered in one price, see our all-inclusive Egypt vacations.
Questions to Ask Before You Pay
- What is your tourism licence number?
- Who runs the tour on the ground: you or another company?
- Which hotels or ship are booked, and what happens if one changes?
- Is the trip private, or will we join other people?
- Who is our guide at the sites?
- Are there any shopping stops?
- Who do we call during the trip, day or night?
- How much do we pay now, and what do we get back if we cancel?
A good company answers all of these in writing without being pushed.

Egypt Tour Companies: FAQ
How do I know if an Egypt tour company is legitimate?
Ask for its tourism licence number and check it in the Egyptian Travel Agents Association member list. Then confirm its address and phone number, and read recent reviews on more than one site.
Is it better to book a tour of Egypt locally or from home?
A licensed local operator usually gives you more freedom and direct contact. An international brand suits you if you want a set group departure and to book in your home country.
Is it safe to book a tour company in Egypt online?
It can be, if the company is licensed, gives you a written itinerary and sets out its payment and cancellation terms before you pay.
Should I choose the cheapest tour company?
Not on price alone. Compare what each quote includes, because a low price can leave out entrance fees, domestic flights or the guide.
Do I need a guide in Egypt?
You do not have to have one, but a licensed Egyptologist explains what you are seeing and handles the logistics at busy sites.
Which is better, a private or a group tour?
A private tour follows your pace and your dates. A group tour can cost less, but the route and times are fixed.
