Tour Itinerary

For your Egypt tour of Cairo with a Nile cruise, you will fly to Cairo today. Upon arrival at Cairo Airport, our tour guide will warmly welcome you and assist with immigration and visa formalities. During the transfer to your 5-star hotel, you’ll get a first impression of the vibrant life of this metropolis, the largest city in Africa. Upon arrival at the hotel, your tour guide will assist you with check-in. The rest of the day is free for your leisure.

This day begins with a visit to Cairo’s greatest highlight. After breakfast, you’ll journey with your guide to the legendary:

The Pyramids of Giza

The Pyramids of Giza

The three famous Pyramids of Giza are the last surviving wonders of the ancient world, constructed around 2600 BCE on a vast limestone plateau.

The Great Pyramid of Cheops is the oldest and largest of the three pyramids, often referred to as the “Great Pyramid.” It stands as the world’s tallest pyramid, reaching a height of 147 meters, built as a tomb for the Egyptian King Cheops.

We will first admire this colossal pyramid, followed by visits to the Pyramid of Chephren and the Pyramid of Mykerinos. Afterward, we’ll head to a plateau offering a magnificent panoramic view of the three Pyramids of Giza.

The Sphinx

The Sphinx

with the body of a lion and the head of a man, lies in front of the Pyramid of Chephren, measuring approximately 73 meters in length and 20 meters in height.

Following the pyramid and Sphinx visit, enjoy an oriental lunch at a local restaurant. Afterward, the journey continues to:

The Necropolis of Saqqara

The Necropolis of Saqqara

Saqqara is one of Egypt’s oldest and largest cemeteries, showcasing the first pyramid in Egypt, the Step Pyramid of King Djoser from the 3rd Dynasty around 2650 BCE. Initially designed as a square mastaba by Imhotep, the pyramid’s architect, it was later converted into a step pyramid. Recently, visitors have the opportunity to explore the interior of the Step Pyramid.

Here, you can also admire the beautiful tombs from the Old Kingdom with their unique paintings.

After the last highlight of this captivating day, you’ll be transferred back to your hotel.

Today, the morning is dedicated to the pharaohs. After breakfast at the hotel, you’ll be picked up to visit the impressive:

The Egyptian Museum

The Egyptian Museum

Opened to visitors in 1902, the Egyptian Museum in Cairo is the world’s largest museum of ancient Egyptian treasures. It houses a unique collection spanning 5000 years of Egyptian history. The museum’s highlights include the famous golden treasures of Tutankhamun. If interested, you can also explore the mummy room, where, among others, Ramses II’s mummy is on display.

After the museum, you’ll gain insight into Cairo’s Islamic culture by visiting the majestic:

Saladin Citadel

Saladin Citadel

Built between 1176 and 1183 CE by Saladin to defend Cairo against Crusader attacks, the citadel offers a breathtaking view of the city. Within the citadel lies one of the city’s most beautiful structures.
The Mosque of Muhammad Ali

The Mosque of Muhammad Ali

This Alabaster Mosque, built between 1830 and 1880, stands as one of Egypt’s largest mosques. The minarets reach 82 meters, and the dome stands at 52 meters. Adorned with alabaster walls and solid alabaster columns, the mosque combines majesty and beauty.

Following your guide’s detailed explanations, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant in the city center, marking the end of your stay in the immortal city of Cairo. You’ll then be transferred to Cairo Airport, flying to your next destination on this cultural journey through Egypt: Luxor, the “City of Palaces.”

Upon arrival at Luxor Airport, you’ll be greeted by our tour guide, taken to your Nile cruise ship, and embark on the cruise. Indulge in dinner and exceptional service onboard as you look forward to the upcoming program in the coming days.

Note:

A qualified Egyptologist, your tour guide, will be with you on board and lead the sightseeing tours during your Nile cruise in Egypt.

After a leisurely breakfast on board, your guide will take you to Thebes-West. The first highlight of the day is:

The Valley of the Kings

The Valley of the Kings

Be enchanted by the wonderful wall paintings in the pharaohs’ tombs, over 3000 years old. There are 64 tombs in the Valley of the Kings, of which you’ll visit three. The Valley holds the tombs of New Kingdom pharaohs (approximately 1550 to 1069 BCE, 18th to 20th Dynasty). In 1922, Howard Carter discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun with its golden treasures.

Leaving this unique valley and its magical atmosphere, you’ll visit another enchanting place:

The Mortuary Temple of Queen Hatshepsut

The Mortuary Temple of Queen Hatshepsut

Built during the 18th Dynasty in 1470 BCE, Queen Hatshepsut’s impressive terraced temple was designed by the architect Senenmut. She was depicted as a man, evident in the well-preserved statues within the temple. In Christian times, a monastery was built on the temple, utilized until the 11th century. In the 19th century, the ruins of the monastery were dismantled.

Enjoy the view from the temple’s terraces overlooking Luxor and the Nile Valley, followed by a drive and a stop to visit:

The Colossi of Memnon

The Colossi of Memnon

The Colossi of Memnon are two adjacent colossal statues of ancient Egyptian Pharaoh Amenhotep III, about 18 meters high, dating back to the 14th century BCE. Both statues depict Amenhotep III and originally stood at the entrance to his temple.

After the visit, you’ll be escorted back to your ship.

Following lunch on board, the ship sets sail towards Edfu via the Esna lock. There is no programmed activity in the afternoon, allowing you to enjoy the cruise from Luxor to Edfu. Take the opportunity to relax on the sun deck, choose your favorite spot on the ship, and immerse yourself in the typical Egyptian Nile landscape.

Tip of the day: Today, you have the option to experience a hot air balloon ride at sunrise over Thebes-West, offering a unique view of Luxor’s ancient treasures (optional).

On this day, indulge in a hearty breakfast on board before exploring one of the best-preserved temples in Egypt. Visit:

The Edfu Temple

The Edfu Temple

Built by the Ptolemies for the falcon god Horus Behdeti from 237 to 57 BCE, the temple remained buried under sand and Nile mud until it was uncovered by the Frenchman Marriette in 1860. Every year, the temple hosted the marriage celebration of Horus of Edfu with Hathor of Dendera, as well as the victory festival of Horus over Seth.

After visiting the Edfu Temple, your dreamlike journey continues as the ship sails towards Kom Ombo. In the afternoon, you’ll visit the:

Kom Ombo Temple

Kom Ombo Temple

It is Egypt’s only double temple, dedicated to the crocodile god Sobek and the falcon god Horus. The temple ruins were buried under sand for a long time, and they were uncovered and restored in 1893. Built during the Greek period from 304 to 31 BCE, hundreds of mummified crocodiles were found around the temple.

After the visit, the ship continues upstream to dock in Aswan.

After breakfast on board, enjoy the scenic beauty of Assuan with its green islands and red granite rocks as you embark on an excursion around the city. The first stop is a boat ride to Agilika Island. There awaits you the last great sanctuary of ancient Egyptian religion, the enchanting:

Philae Temple

Philae Temple

Originally located on Philae Island south of Aswan, the temple was partially submerged for several months each year after the construction of the High Dam. Therefore, from 1977 to 1980, the temple was relocated to the neighboring Agilika Island. In 553 CE, the temple served as a church, leading to significant damage to the reliefs.

Next, visit the impressive dam that holds back the waters of the Nile, with both positive and negative impacts on the region.

The High Dam

The High Dam

President Nasser initiated the construction of the High Dam, which took place from 1960 to 1971. This resulted in one of the world’s largest reservoirs, measuring 500 km in length and 32 km in width at its widest point. The dam itself is over 3800 meters long, 111 meters high, with a width of about 40 meters at the crest.

Tip of the day: In the afternoon, you have the opportunity to explore the beautiful botanical garden on Kitchener Island and visit a Nubian village, experiencing the hospitality of the locals (optional).

Today presents a unique opportunity for a memorable private excursion to Abu Simbel, or you can enjoy a free day in Aswan.

Abu Simbel Temples

Abu Simbel Temples

Ramses II built the two Temples of Abu Simbel in 1260 BCE. They were hidden by the sand until 1817, when the Italian explorer Belzoni discovered them. The Ramses Temple is 60 meters long and 30 meters tall, carved into the rock. Queen Nefertari’s Temple is 21 meters deep and 12 meters high. After the dam was built, both temples were moved up about 62 meters from 1964 to 1968 to save them from drowning in the reservoir.

The Abu Simbel trip begins early in the morning, with a private car and a private guide driving you through the desert. Watch the sunrise on the way to Abu Simbel, and on the way back, you’ll see the Mirage.

As the sun rises, you embark on a journey along the Nile river, leaving Aswan behind. You have a full day to enjoy the cruise and relax on board. You can admire the stunning views of the Nile valley, where life has not changed much for centuries. You will see fishermen throwing their nets, farmers tending their fields and animals, women doing laundry, and children greeting you with smiles. This is a unique opportunity to experience the culture and history of Egypt from a different perspective. Make the most of your time on board and savor the beauty of the Nile!

Discover the ancient wonders of Thebes as you visit two of its most impressive temples. Start with the:

Karnak Temple

Karnak Temple

The largest religious complex in the world, where you can admire the magnificent architecture and sculptures dedicated to the god Amun-Re and his family. Marvel at the Great Hypostyle Hall, which features 134 colossal columns decorated with hieroglyphs and reliefs.

Next, head to the:

Luxor Temple

Luxor Temple

a masterpiece of Egyptian art and history. Built by Pharaoh Amenhotep III and later expanded by Ramses II, the temple honors the god Amun-Re and his consort Mut. Walk along the avenue of sphinxes that once linked the two temples and see the statues, obelisks, and shrines that adorn the temple.

Enjoy a leisurely afternoon on board as you cruise back to Luxor and take in the scenic views of the Nile.

Today marks the last day of your unforgettable journey along the Nile in Egypt. You will enjoy a final breakfast on board and then complete the check-out process. A transfer service will take you to Luxor Airport where you will catch your flight home.
