Tunis Village (Fayoum Pottery Village)

Tunis Village is a charming artistic community perched on a hill overlooking Lake Qarun in Fayoum, known as Egypt's pottery capital. The village was transformed in the 1960s when Swiss-Egyptian potter Evelyne Porret established a pottery school here, attracting artists and creatives who turned this quiet farming village into a vibrant center for ceramic arts and eco-tourism.

Pottery & Arts

Today, Tunis is home to numerous pottery workshops where visitors can watch artisans at work and try their hand at the potter's wheel. The village also hosts painters, weavers, and other artists, creating a creative community unique in Egypt. Several galleries display and sell locally produced art, and the annual Fayoum Art Festival draws artists from across Egypt and beyond.

Eco-Tourism

The village's picturesque setting, with its mud-brick architecture and panoramic views over Lake Qarun, has made it a popular eco-tourism destination. Several boutique lodges and guesthouses offer peaceful retreats, and the surrounding countryside is ideal for bird-watching, cycling, and exploring the agricultural heritage of the Fayoum oasis.
