Prepare to be enchanted by the magnificent wall paintings in the tombs of the pharaohs, which are over 3,000 years old. So far, 64 tombs have been discovered in the Valley of the Kings, and you’ll have the opportunity to visit three of them. This valley houses the tombs of the New Kingdom pharaohs (approximately 1550 to 1069 BCE, 18th to 20th dynasties). In 1922, the Englishman Howard Carter discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun, revealing its golden treasures.

Leaving this unique valley and its magical atmosphere, you’ll proceed to another enchanting location:

Hatshepsut Temple

Hatshepsut Temple

The mortuary temple of Queen Hatshepsut dates back to the 18th dynasty (around 1470 BCE). She commissioned the impressive terraced temple, designed by the architect Senenmut. Interestingly, Queen Hatshepsut was often depicted as a man, a detail evident in the well-preserved statues within the temple. During Christian times, a monastery was established on the temple grounds, which remained in use until the 11th century. In the 19th century, the monastery ruins were dismantled.

Enjoy the view from the temple’s terraces, overlooking Luxor and the Nile Valley. Then, continue your journey with a stop to visit:

The Colossi of Memnon

The Colossi of Memnon

You will marvel at the sight of two gigantic statues that stand side by side near the Nile river. These statues are about 18 meters (59 feet) high and were carved more than 3000 years ago. They are the images of Amenhotep III, a powerful pharaoh who ruled ancient Egypt. These statues used to guard the entrance of his magnificent temple, which is now mostly destroyed.

Your journey then returns to the other side of the Nile, and your final visit in Luxor is the mighty:

Karnak Temple

Karnak Temple
